Take Action Now: Federal Cuts Will Hurt Children and Families
FRight now Congress is deciding whether or not to pass a budget reconciliation package that will take healthcare and food support away from children, families, veterans, and our disabled community, while at the same time increasing funding for ICE and giving tax breaks to corporations and the extremely wealthy. This proposal puts lives and the future of our state at risk.
Angelica Andrade Leaving after 5 Years with CAWFC
After 5 years with the California Work & Family Coalition, Angelica Andrade, Bilingual Education & Membership Coordinator is moving on. In her time with us, Angelica played a key role in huge Coalition wins including expanding job protection for parents and caregivers taking time for family, winning more paid sick days for California workers, and expanding paid leave wage replacement to 90% for low wage workers.
Angelica also co-organized bilingual Advocacy Days and Advocacy Weeks where hundreds of California workers and advocates educated their lawmakers about the importance of our priority bills. She worked with staff to establish the Coalition Resource Hub and helped directly support people with paid leave information through the Coalition info account. She also ensured that paid leave information would be available to non-English speakers by advocating for language justice with the EDD, coordinating on-line and in person Spanish and Chinese language trainings and contributing to the Coalition becoming an increasingly bilingual space.
We will miss her. We wish her well and know she will continue to do incredible things!
Spanish Language Videos Leave Laws are Available Now!
The California Work & Family Coalition recently released short educational videos about Paid Family Leave, State Disability Insurance, and Paid Sick & Safe Days in Spanish. Thank you to Coalition staff Angelica & Katie for recording these videos and making sure that more workers can access information about their rights.

We Celebrate Paid Leave Expansion on Father’s Day
We hope you all had a Happy Father’s Day! Paid Family Leave allows Fathers to be there to bond with their children. Thanks to SB 951, which was implemented on January 1st 2025, eligible workers making less than $63,000 can now receive 90% of their regular wages on leave.
The California Work & Family Coalition would like to shout out Jerry Sandoval-Nerri who is a father and a long-time coalition member who advocated for this crucial change. Thanks to his advocacy, Paid Family Leave is now more affordable for California parents. Shout out to California Representative Jimmy Gomez as well, for sharing out about this crucial change on Father’s Day and continuing to spread the word about Paid Family Leave!
Welcome to CAWFC Inland Empire Breastfeeding Coalition!
Please welcome our newest member, the Inland Empire Breastfeeding Coalition (IEBFC). The IBEFC plays an important role providing education, support, and safe spaces to build community and collaborate in the Inland Empire. We’ve been aware of the great work they do with diverse communities across the IE and we’re so excited to learn from them and work with them on expanding access to supports like paid leave in the IE and across the state!
