California Work & Family Coalition Statement on Governor's May Revise

California Work & Family Coalition is a statewide alliance of organizations united in the belief that all people deserve the time and resources to care for themselves and each other. We envision a world where all people, whether currently working or not, have the power, time, resources, and support systems to care for themselves and their families, whether biological or chosen, to build collective community, and to rest and pursue fulfilling and healthy lives.

California is now the 4th largest economy in the world. No one in California should fear going hungry or worry about being able to afford basic necessities like shelter, medicine, healthcare, child care, or elder care. Our state leaders can and must prioritize meeting Californians’ basic needs by raising revenues. If state leaders fail to act we risk losing essential programs that Californians rely on to see their doctor, fill their prescriptions, pay rent, buy groceries, afford child care, elder care, care for a family member with disabilities or to access safety and healing if they are a survivor of violence.

Lawmakers must choose: raise revenues or abandon the promise that all Californians deserve a chance at the California Dream. We look forward to working with the Administration and the State Legislature to realize a more just, equitable future in which every Californian can not only survive but thrive.
