A New Chapter Begins for the California Work & Family Coalition

We’re thrilled to share an important new milestone for the Coalition: we’ve officially joined Tides Center as our new fiscal sponsor. Tides Center’s commitment to social justice, equity, and movement-building strongly aligns with our work and long-term vision for paid leave and family-friendly workplaces in California and beyond.

As we enter the next phase of our work, Tides Center’s robust organizational infrastructure and support systems will provide a strong foundation from which we will continue to build the Coalition and expand access to policies that support the health, well-being, and economic security of California workers and families. The next 2-3 years will be a key time for California’s Paid Family Leave program and the Coalition is preparing to expand efforts to bring people into the program and make our current system even more responsive to the needs of California workers.

We are excited for the future, and we also want to honor and celebrate our successful partnership with Family Values at Work. The California Work & Family Coalition was fiscally sponsored by Family Values at Work (FV@W) since July of 2015. During the last ten years, under FV@W, the Coalition grew from one to five staff and accomplished historic wins expanding both job protection and wage replacement for workers taking time to bond with a new child, care for a seriously ill family member, or heal from an acute or chronic health condition themselves. We’ve also worked with partners to support successful legislation that extends leave rights to workers who care for their chosen and extended family during this time.

We remain part of the FV@W Network and will continue to collaborate with them and fellow Network members on education and policy change at the state and federal level. We have come really far, and our current partnership with Tides is part of moving us toward our goal of building a strong statewide movement dedicated to securing the rights, resources, and accommodations that all Californians need.
