Coalition joins Poderosas Summit Focused on Latina Leadership and Organizing

The Summit was a two day event designed to build Latina civic leadership, inspire organizing, and create space for culture, storytelling, and community power. Held in the Central Valley in Fresno, California, a key region where community stands at the intersection of immigration, climate, and economic justice, the summit’s panels and workshops focused on these key areas including community organizing and professional leadership development.

Paid Family Leave is often the difference between stability and stress for working families. In an episode of In Clear Terms with AARP California, host Dr. Thyonne Gordon, California State Senator María Elena Durazo and Katie Duberg, Political Organizing Director at the California Work & Family Coalition discuss how California’s Paid Family Leave policies are evolving and why those updates matter for older adults and caregivers. Know Your Rights: Free Training Series for Central Valley/Central Coast Workers

This October, California Work & Family Coalition (CAWFC), Center for Worklife Law, and Poder Latinx are teaming up to host a free training series designed specifically for Central Valley/Coast workers. 

These sessions will highlight important updates to California’s Paid Leave and Disability Insurance laws in 2025 that are key information for working parents, caregivers, and advocates. We will also share helpful resources for undocumented workers when applying for these programs, including guidance for farmworkers, seasonal workers, and those navigating pregnancy, childbirth, and parental and caregiving leave.

Conozca Sus Derechos: Series de Capacitación Gratuita para Trabajadores en el Valle y Costa Central

Este octubre, el California Work & Family Coalition (CAWFC), Center for Worklife Law, y Poder Latinx colaborarán en una serie de capacitación gratuita diseñada específicamente para los trabajadores del Valle y Coastal Central.

Estas sesiones incluirán actualizaciones importantes a las leyes del Permiso Familiar Pagado y Seguro Estatal por Discapacidad del Estado de California en el 2025. Esta es información clave para padres que trabajan, cuidadores de familia, y defensores. También compartiremos recursos útiles para los trabajadores indocumentados cuando apliquen por estos programas, incluyendo orientación para trabajadores agrícolas, trabajadores de temporada, y quienes estén lidiando con el embarazo, parto, y la licencia parental o para cuidar a un ser querido.

Center for WorkLife Law’s Helpline

WorkLife Law’s free, confidential legal helpline helps with issues at work and school related to family caregiving, pregnancy, pregnancy loss, postpartum needs and lactation. Our attorneys support callers in understanding their rights to Paid Family Leave and getting the time off they need. WorkLife Law also helps workers and students who are facing discrimination or harassment related to their caregiving or pregnancy. Our helpline is available in English, Spanish, and other languages by request– regardless of income level or immigration status.
