LA Train-the-Trainer & Regional Meeting

The Coalition led two big events in Los Angeles last month: A California Family Leave Rights Train-the-Trainer, hosted at St. John's Well Child & Family Center, and a Coalition Regional Meeting hosted by ACLU SoCal. We had a great turnout of community leaders, advocates, and legal experts interested in gaining the

At the Train-the-Trainer event, Sharon Terman from Legal Aid at Work presented on the myriad of family-friendly laws in California and how they interconnect. We tested our knowledge by examining case studies and discussing the laws that are applicable in each situation. We were especially thankful to our Coalition partners for helping to translate our materials into Spanish, and for our interpreters from Antena Los Angeles for ensuring the training was accessible in both Spanish and English and starting the day with information on the movement for language justice. As you may know, awareness about PFL, PSD, and other family-friendly laws is lowest in low income and new immigrant communities. Coalition organizations are committed to making workplaces family-friendly for all California workers.

Bay Area members – Following our successful Train-the-Trainer in Los Angeles, we are holding a training in Oakland next week on May 4th. Please RSVP here. And don’t forget to donate to help us expand and do more trainings throughout California.

Legislative Update: SB 63, the New Parent Leave Act

SB 63 passed out of the Judiciary and Labor Committees, and is on its way to the Appropriations Committee! Thanks to everyone for reaching out to your State Senators to voice your support and schedule in district meetings. We are excited to announce that we will be holding a CA Work & Family Lobby Day on May 22, 2017. This will be an inspiring gathering of statewide members. We'll get a chance to connect with each other, hear from our champions, and meet with legislators. RSVP here.

At the Regional Meeting, Coalition members practiced lobbying for SB 63 through role play.

Take Action Now: Organize or Join a District Visit on SB 63
