Coalition/EDD Partnership Success: Paid Family Leave Media Campaign Launch
In February, the Employment Development Department (EDD) launched the first statewide Paid Family Leave (PFL) media campaign since the law passed in 2002. Coalition organizations secured funds for the campaign when we worked with legislators to pass a budget bill in 2014. The PFL Advocates sub-committee gave input on the public education campaign entitled “Moments Matter.” The campaign combines radio, digital, print, and some television ads focused on family caregivers, new dads, moms, adoptive, and foster parents. Become a Community Family Leave Laws Educator
Now that there is a robust media campaign, we are focused on strengthening grassroots community education on Paid Leave and paid sick days through our Los Angeles clinic-based outreach projects and in our Train the Trainer program. Help Win Bonding Leave for New Parents
We are organizing to expand access to Paid Family Leave for parents and caregivers. Last year, we saw support build in leaps and bounds for the New Parent Leave Bill. Because of your efforts, we’re hitting the ground running to pass SB 63 (Jackson), the New Parent Leave Act. SB 63 would extend 12 weeks of job protected leave to new parents working businesses with over 20 employees for bonding. Please send in your letters of support to Senator Jackson’s office by March 15th (templates here). SB 63 will be heard in the Senate Labor Committee, March 22, 9:30 am in room 2040. Please come to show your support for the bill!
